Struggle of Aviation Workers Continues With Actions


(07.07.2012) Actions of sacked 305 THY’s workers which are members of Hava-İş (Civil Aviation Workers Union), resisting to strike ban and defending their rights, continue. On 24th June, under leadership of some trade-unions which have an opponent position against the central bureaucracy of Türk-İş confederation, a solidarity activity was carried out to support aviation workers.

Turkish Government’s Anti-Democratic Attack on the Right to Strike

(20.05.2012) The governing AKP (Justice and Development Party) aims to broaden already draconian anti-union laws of Turkey to make it impossible for aviation unions to organise legal strikes. Last week, an AKP deputy tabled a motion in the Turkish Parliament amending the collective labour agreements law in order to introduce a full-fledged ban on the right to strike in the aviation industry.

Iranian workers who were carrying banners that read “Workers of all Lands, Unite”, “Free Political Prisoners and Arrested Workers’ Leaders” were also carrying placards.

(02.05.2012) Hundreds of thousands of workers joined May Day demonstrations in various cities and towns across Turkey. The central demonstration was the one in Istanbul which was the biggest one. Around 200,000 toilers joined the demo and the Taksim Square was packed. Many contingents were unable to enter the Square for many hours.

(26.03.2012) The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant is still dumping huge amounts of radioactive material daily, without exact knowledge of the whereabouts of the melt-down fuels. TEPCO and Japanese government are only cooling all stricken reactors by water, the result being a large amount of contaminated cooling water which is continuously leaking into the Pacific Ocean.

(07.11.2011) Hundreds of people were killed, thousands injured and many more left homeless in the wake of the earthquake in Van and Ercis. As UID-DER we launched a solidarity campaign after the quake with the slogan “Forge Workers’ Solidarity with the people of Van!” During the campaign we witnessed once again that despite all racist incitements there is no hostility between Turkish and Kurdish toilers.

Invisible Victims of Van Earthquake: Refugees

(31.10.2011) Van and Ercis were severely struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on October 23 causing an enormous devastation. The number of people who lost their lives is already more than 600 and it is unfortunately expected to rise. And there are more than 4000 injured.

What is UİD-DER and What Does It Stand For?

(23.12.2009) Our Association of International Workers Solidarity, UİD-DER, has been founded in June 2006 by Workers Self-Education Groups (WSEG) which have been active in different industries such as metal, textile, petrochemistry. Revolutionary vanguard workers who make up WSEG had been conducting work in union rank-and-file, factories, strike places for many years. UİD-DER is the fruit of this continuous work carried on in a working class discipline. And we keep carrying on our work to strengthen this base on an international level as well.
