Hundreds of electricity and Iran Tyre workers protest against temporary contracts outside regime’s ‘parliament’.
Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) has reported that on Wednesday, January 7, about 500 workers of regional electricity companies from different parts of Iran gathered in Tehran to protest against temporary contracts.
At the same time a number of workers from Iran Tyre were also outside the Iranian regime’s ‘parliament’ protesting against temporary contracts and working as day labourers.
ILNA quoted a few Iran Tyre workers as saying: “Hiring day labourers for work that is continuous and is not limited to the season is an injustice, because despite them doing the same work as other workers, they are deprived of insurance cover and they are paid less than other workers.”
A workers from a regional electricity company said: “We are stuck between the official workers [hired on a permanent basis] and contract workers [employed by contractors]. They have neither hired us officially nor made a promise to make us official, while most of us have over seven years’ experience.”
The growth of temporary contracts is just one of many problems that Iranian workers face.
