To the memory of Fumiaki Hoshino and class brothers/sisters in Japan:

Our Song is not Yet Sung

We, as UİD-DER, made a lively web program during the lockdown put into effect for the three consecutive days including the New Year day and the following weekend. The programme’s title was “Against those who plunge times into darkness, we are sowing hope for tomorrows!” In this program we reminded struggles of our class brothers and sisters from around the world. In one of the video clips, which we produced for a poem written by a fellow female worker from Ankara, we used the hope-giving paintings by dear Fumiaki Hoshino to whom last year we bid farewell. In spite of the fact that he served 44 years of his life in prison and died there at the age of 73, Hoshino never lost faith in a world free of classes, exploitation, and wars, and reflected this in his paintings. Here we publish the message we sent to his worker comrades at Doro-Chiba.

In their heartfelt answer to our message, signed by H. Yamamoto in the name of International Labor Solidarity Committee of Doro-Chiba, they say:

“Dear friends of UID-DER,

Thank you very much for sending the wholehearted and warm poem and video clip in memory of Fumiaki Hoshino.

Immediately it was translated into Japanese and sent to Ms. Akiko Hoshino and all colleagues concerned of the Hoshino Defense Committee and Doro-Chiba.

We'd like to extend our most cordial greetings of New Year to all friends of UID-DER.

Covid-19 sharply revealed the realness of disparity and poverty expanding in our societies.

And at the same time, it clarifies the truth that the workers have an essential power to change this realness.

Let's fight against the worldwide neoliberalism regimes in death agony!

In solidarity”

To The Class Brothers and Sisters of Doro-Chiba

Our dearest friends of Doro-Chiba

We have left behind a hard year. In 2020 the novel coronavirus is used as a bogeyman to frighten the working class. The working masses suffered more repression. The bill of the crisis is put on the back of the working class and other toilers. Social inequality and other social problems were deepened. However, despite all this, workers took action in many countries. They fought for their demands and aspirations. Undoubtedly, the coming days will witness a growing struggle of our class on a world scale. The possibilities to create a peaceful and happy world without classes and exploitation will be reinforced in this new period. We are duty bound exactly for this reason to strengthen historical optimism and struggle. So, while leaving behind 2020 and preparing for a new year of struggle, we, as UID-DER, wanted to remind these truths to the combative workers in Turkey. We made a lively web program during the lockdown put into effect for the three consecutive days including the New Year day and the following weekend. The programme’s title was “Against those who plunge times into darkness, we are sowing hope for tomorrows!” referring to one of the best-known revolutionary poems. In this program we reminded struggles of our class brothers and sisters from around the world. We published poems and songs of struggle. In one of the video clips, which we produced for a poem written by a fellow female worker from Ankara, we used the hope-giving paintings by dear Fumiaki Hoshino to whom last year we bid farewell. Here is what is written in the blurb for the video:

“The hope-giving paintings in this video belong to Fumiaki Hoshino. In his youth he wholeheartedly committed himself to the struggle of the working class for a world free of classes, exploitation, wars. And exactly for this reason he was held in prison for 44 years by the ruthless Japanese rulers. He lost his life there on May 30, 2019 at the age of 73.

“He kept his loyalty to his struggle and joy of living. He produced paintings with lively colors full of hope, reflecting the riches of his soul. His paintings tell us: “if there is life then there is hope, if there is struggle then there is hope”. As our fellow sister in arms from Ankara says in her poem, hope and joy of living will never end for those who dream of sun that will shine after deep dark night!”

The poem has the title “Our Song is not yet Sung”:

I know there exists flowers that pale away slowly

flowers untouched

But I still dream of colorful gardens

I know there are souls soaked with hate

deprived of love

And I know there are longings

with no bound

But still I dream of the sun

that will shine after the deep dark night

I know there are those who do not speak up

with tongues and teeth locked

And those who say “nothing will change”

with hopes they lost

I know there are rivers of tears

built up drop by drop

Despite everything I see those resisting the agony

I know beautiful days that will not come by just saying they will

I dream of days

with songs of freedom in our mouths

I call upon you to my fight

Our song is not yet sung,

Our dreams are not yet realized.

And I know they will be realized sooner or later
