Solidarity Message to Fedex/TNT Strikers in Italy
Dear class brothers and sisters,
As the Association of International Workers’ Solidarity (UİD-DER) we are a working-class organisation based in Turkey. We received the news about your struggle against lay-offs at Fedex/TNT and for the reinstatement of those sacked brothers and sisters. We strongly condemn this attack by the bosses against you and firmly support your struggle. By this message we want to extend our deepest feelings of solidarity to you.
The problem of temporary employment agencies, temporary contracts is a general problem across the world. Here in Turkey we face similar problems and one aspect of our struggle is same as yours: to get “temporary” workers into permanent ones with full rights. We have engaged in many strikes and pickets as yours some of which are exactly because of the same problem. We understand you and your struggle very well and our shoulders are next to your shoulder.
We have seen in SI Cobas statement that many other workers across Italy working in other warehouses are giving their solidarity. This is exactly the way the working class acts since the early years of its existence on a world scale. Capitalists will never be able to break the will of the working class and its solidarity. To make your struggle known by a greater audience in Turkey we translated into Turkish and published the SI Cobas statement as soon as we received it. And our members and friends will make their workmates learn about your struggle by this translation of the statement. You can see it through the link: https://uidder.org/node/34109
One thing is for sure. As you make clear in your statement “when you engage a battle you can win or lose. If you don't fight, you've already lost.” So we congratulate you for you have taken the road of struggle against a powerful class enemy with the whole state apparatus in their service. But once united, the working class is unbeatable. As the name of our organisation suggests, since the beginning we are trying to establish international links with workers and working-class organisations around the world.
In solidarity
UİD-DER
